What are eyelash
extensions?
Eyelash
extensions are semi-permanent synthetic mink eyelash’s that are attached to
your natural eyelashes one by one. Eyelash extensions are very different from
“individual” or “strip” lashes. This method does not damage the lash or stop
your natural lash from growing. The extensions come in different colors,
lengths, & width. In today’s fashion forward world everything is becoming a
fashion accessory. Women are wearing eyelash extensions as if they are wearing
high-heeled pointy Christian Louboutins for the eyes.
“Strip” or “individual” lashes were originally meant to be worn for only one day. However, many people use different types of adhesives such as nail glue or glue intended for hair weaving to attach the lashes so they will last weeks at a time. This “off label” technique can be applied quickly; however, it can be very damaging to the natural eyelashes. It prevents various phases of the natural lash growth cycle from growing.
What
are the benefits of eyelash extensions?
Eyelash
extensions will give you a longer, thicker, fuller & darker eyelash. You
can ditch your eyelash curler and mascara and still wake up every morning
batting your lashes like Bambi. The lashes are water resistant, weightless, and
they give you a very natural but glam appearance. The extensions will not
collect debris from your eye shadow giving you that cakey look.
Your eyes will appear to be more open and attractive, giving you a fresher and
youthful look.
How long do the eyelash extensions last?
Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent. They will last
up to two months, but in order to maintain a full lash you must come in once a
month for a “re-fresh” appointment. Eyelashes grow just like normal hair, with
the exception that the lashes cycle out every30-60
days. Unlike the hair on our head, the length of our lashes is predetermined.
Eyelash lifecycle includes a growth, rest and shedding phase. The
semi-permanent eyelash will shed with the cycle of your natural lashes.
Are the eyelash extensions safe? Will they damage my natural lashes?
When
your eyelash extensions are applied by a trained, licensed Eyelash Extensionist
they are completely safe and harmless. In fact, they grow, rest and shed right
along with the natural eyelash to which they were applied, so there is no
damage to neighboring eyelashes. When inquiring about eyelash extensions always
insist on seeing the Extensionsts Cosmetologist license and proper eyelash
credentials. In the state of Georgia, it is against the law to apply eyelash
extensions without having a Cosmetology or Esthetician license.
What is the eyelash application procedure?
Receiving
a full set of eyelash extensions is a two-hour procedure. An eyelash re-fresh is a one-hour
procedure. First, you will fill out a client consultation form and then we will
discuss any questions or concerns that you may have. After we have addressed
all of your questions you will then lay back and relax on a comfortable massage
table while closing your eyes. I will then apply collagen anti wrinkle gel pads
on your eyes to cover your lower lashes. The gel eye pads will leave your under
eye feeling soft and rejuvenated after your lash application. Falling asleep
during the procedure is encouraged and if your twenty-one or older I can even
offer you a glass of wine to take the edge off. Then I will start applying the
eyelash extensions one at a time to one single eyelash with sanitized tweezers.
May I apply mascara to my eyelash extensions?
Or eyeliner on the top of my lash line? What type of eye makeup remover should
I use?
Yes,
you may wear mascara on your lash extensions. Although the extensions will make
your natural lashes look darker. I strongly recommend that you use a
water-based mascara and apply the mascara from the middle of the lash to the
tip of the lash. Do not apply any more then two applications of mascara; you do
not want to get the mascara clumped into your lash extensions. Do not use
oil-based or waterproof mascara. Waterproof mascara is very drying to the
natural eyelash & extensions. It will dry out the adhesive and the eyelash
extensions resulting in shedding sooner then later. Any oil based mascara or
makeup remover has the same effect on the eyelash extensions. You can also
apply gel eyeliner on your top lash line; a pencil liner may dry out the lash
extensions. Again, avoid all oil-based eye products including eye makeup
remover.
What should I do to prepare for my eyelash
extension appointment?
Whether
you are getting a full set of lashes or getting a lash refresh time is of the
essence. Because you are allotted a certain amount of time during your
appointment, I would rather spend your appointment time apply lashes and not
removing your mascara. I ask that you please have the mascara removed before
your appointment.
How do I select the proper eyelash extensions
to enhance my eyes?
Just
like most other beauty services, eyelash extensions are not a “one size fits
all” service. There is an enormous variation in the size, shape, texture,
quantity, color and length. The length of the extensions should fit your
personal style as well as your lifestyle. I will discuss with you how natural
or dramatic you want your lashes to look. Also, keep in mind I am about keeping
your natural lashes healthy & in tact. Once I evaluate your natural lashes,
we will then select the best extensions to fit your lifestyle and your lashes.
How do I maintain and take care of my eyelash
extensions?
1.) Avoid pulling, touching, picking, or
rubbing your lashes at all time.
2.) Do not wash or get eyes wet for
twenty-four hours after your lash application. After twenty-four hours have
passed you will then be able to get your lashes wet.
3.) Sleeping on your side or back is
recommended. If you sleep face first you will smash the lash extensions and
they will become tangled and worn. I can recommend a special pillow to help
maintain your lashes while you sleep.
4.) Do not use oil based eye makeup
removers or facial cleansers. Use only gel-based cleansers to remove makeup and
cleanse your lashes. Only use a water-based mascara to ensure that the product will
easily wash off without scrubbing.
5.) Do not use an eyelash curler. Since
your eyelash extensions are already curled and long you will not need to curl
your extensions. Eyelash curlers are extremely harsh and will break both your
natural lashes and your eyelash extensions.
6.) Use warm water and suggested gel based
cleansers to clean your lashes and remove eye makeup. Wipe gently around the
eyes without scrubbing and pat dry. Do not use Q-tips or cotton, as remnants
will be caught in your lashes.
7.) Occasional short visits to the sauna or
steam room is fine however, daily or excessive exposure to steam cause the
adhesive to loosen the extension from your natural lash. If this happens it may
require more frequent visits to have, your lash re-touched.
